Giving back to nature.
We love spending time outdoors. In fact, we love it so much that we started this company, just to help other people Get Out and experience nature as well.
When we founded Get Out, we decided from the start that we would live by two guiding principles. The first relates to the short term, the here-and-now, while the second looks to the horizon, i.e., the long term. Let us tell you more.
1. Travel invisibly
Whenever we are outdoor, either by ourselves or with a group on a guided adventure, we strive to travel invisibly. This is the first principle.
To travel invisibly, simply mean that we always try to leave a campsite at least as good as when we found it. Preferably, the next person who visit should not be able to tell that another human being has ever sat their foot on this piece of land. This include (but is not limited to):
- Not leaving any trash behind
- Not breaking branches or otherwise spoil the vegetation
- Not making a fire directly on the rock (besides leaving ugly black marks, the rock will also crack of the heat, never to heal again)
- Remove other signs of camping activity (e.g., move stones used to stabilise tent guys)
All in all, it is not that hard. Usually, it is enough to use common sense, and take an extra round around the campsite just before leaving, to make sure that nothing gets left behind.
2. Give back to nature
The second principle is about how to make a positive difference for nature and the environment in the long run. However, while we know how to take care of things in a very hands-on sense of the way (see above), and there are many others that know better than we what works in the long term.
This is why we, Get Out, have decided to donate 10% of our profit back to nature.
Every year at the end of the season, we select a few trusted organisations to share our contribution. In 2020, our donation went to the initiative Stockholm Kayak Trial.
